Geboren 1957 in Buenos Aires, Argentinien. Von 1977 bis 1981 studierte Hortensia Völckers Kunstgeschichte und Politologie an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Von 1989 bis 1991 arbeitete Völckers als Referentin für Bildende Kunst beim Siemens Arts Program. In den Jahren 1989 bis 1995 war sie für Konzeption und Organisation der Münchner Tanzbiennale ‚Dance‘ verantwortlich. Als Co-Kuratorin fungierte sie 1995/1996 auch für PHASE 1–2 Bildende Künstler im Theater Am Turm, Frankfurt. Von 1995 bis 1997 war Hortensia Völckers Mitglied des Leitungsteams der documenta X in Kassel. Danach war sie von 1997 bis 2002 Co-Direktorin der Wiener Festwochen. Seit März 2002 ist sie Künstlerische Direktorin und Vorstand der Kulturstiftung des Bundes.

Born in 1957, Buenos Aires, Argentina. From 1977 to 1981, she studied Art History and Political Science at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. From 1989 to 1991, Völckers worked as a fine arts consultant for the Siemens Art Program. Between 1989 and 1995, she was responsible for planning and organizing the Munich biennial dance festival ‘Dance‘. In this function, Hortensia Völckers curated numerous exhibitions. She also participated as a co-curator in ‘PHASE 1-2 Bildende Künstler‘ at the Theater Am Turm in Frankfurt in 1995/1996. From 1995 to 1997, Hortensia Völckers was a member of the documenta X management team in Kassel. Afterwards, she oversaw the dance program area and cross-artistic projects for the Wiener Festwochen and, in 2000, was appointed artistic director of the international dance festival ‘tanz2000.at - ReMembering the Body‘. She has been the artistic director and executive officer of the German Federal Cultural Foundation since March 2002.
