###

The Danish singer Inga Nielsen recoreded already at the age of nine with Columbia Records her first discs with Danish folk- and christmas songs. She absolved her training in Vienna, Stuttgart and Budapest. After some years being part of the ensemble of the Frankfurt Opera, Inga Nielsen decided to work as a freelancer and makes today guest appearances at the stages of Vienna, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, Milan, London (Covent Garden), Paris, Zurich, New York and Buenos Aires as well as at the festivals in Bayreuth, Aix-en-Provence, Edinburgh, the Netherlands, Athens, Verbier, Lucerne and the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York.
An outstanding success in Inga Nielsen's carreer marked her role portrait of Konstanze in Mozart' s The Abduction from the Seraglio at the Salzburg Festspiele and in Covent Garden under the guidance of Georg Solti. At the Zurich Opera Inga Nielsen made her role debuts as Agathe in Weber' s Freischütz (Staging: Ruth Berghaus) and as Leonore in Fidelio. With her sensational appearance as Salome in a new production of the Leipzig Opera by Nikolaus Lehnhoff she has succeeded in 1994 to change to the dramatic repertory. Later she has made guest appearances with this part at many great houses between San Francisco, Dresden, Amsterdam, Vienna and Paris under the guidance of the conductors Daniel Barenboim and James Levine. In 1994 Inga Nielsen appeared in a new role at the Royal Theatre in Kopenhagen, which was Marshal in The Knight of the Rose. At the same house followed her first Tosca and shortly afterwards Madama Butterfly. In the title part of Die Frau ohne Schatten Inga Nielsen sang under Giuseppe Sinopoli both at the Dresden Semperoper and at the Milan Scala, in Vienna, Munich, Athens and then in Los Angeles under the guidance of Kent Nagano. She sang as well Die Frau in Arnold Schönberg' s Expectation at the Cincinnati Opera and in a new production at Covent Garden (Staging: Willy Decker). In 1998 Inga Nielsen was appointed by the Dutch Queen a Chamber Singer; already in 1992 she was dubbed knight of the Dannebrog-Order, what corresponds to the English honouring of a »Dame«.
In 2003 she made her debut as Senta in Der fliegende Holländer at the Hamburg Staatsoper. Appearances as Salome in Berlin (Deutsche Oper), as Chrysothemis in Oviedo and in Hamburg followed. In Hamburg she sang the part of Leonore, too.
Since the 2004/05 season she sings at the Komische Oper Berlin the part of Lady Billows in Willy Decker' s new production of Albert Herring.
