Der Traum vieler internationaler Jazzmusiker*innen ist es, das Jazzleben in New York City zu erleben. Der Saxophonist Tobias Meinhart hatte den gleichen Traum, und so zog es ihn vor einem Jahrzehnt aus seiner Heimat Deutschland an den Big Apple. Heute ist er eine wichtige Figur der New Yorker Jazzszene und spielt regelmäßig in den angesagten Clubs wie dem legendären Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls oder 55Bar. Dort spielte er mit vielen Jazz-Größen wie Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ingrid Jensen und Aaron Goldberg.
Für diese Tournee und sein neues Album The Painter hat Meinhart eine Reihe von Originalkompositionen zusammengestellt, die seiner Meinung nach seine persönliche Erkundung der spirituellen Kraft der Musik darstellen. Er gründete eine Band mit einigen der besten jungen Jazzmusiker New Yorks, die regelmäßig in den besten Jazzclubs der Stadt auftreten. Der Kern der Band besteht aus dem Pianisten Lorenz Kellhuber, dem Bassisten Matthias Pichler und dem Schlagzeuger Jesse Simpson.
Die Musik auf The Painter ist geprägt von starken Unisono-Linien, gleichzeitig humorvoll, atmosphärisch und voller Energie.
Das Album wurde vom Downbeat Magazine in eine Liste der Besten Alben (****) des Jahres 2021 aufgenommen.

The dream of many international jazz musicians is to experience the jazz life of New York City. Saxophonist Tobias Meinhart had the same dream and made a move to the City from his native Germany a decade ago. Now he is an important figure of the New York Jazz scene and plays regularly in the trendy clubs such as the legendary Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls or 55Bar. There he played with many jazz greats such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ingrid Jensen and Aaron Goldberg.
For this tour and his new album The Painter, Meinhart has compiled a series of original compositions that he feels represent his personal exploration of the spiritual power of music. He formed a band with some of the best young jazz musicians in New York and they perform regularly at the city’s best jazz clubs. The core of the band is made of pianist Lorenz Kellhuber, bassist Matthias Pichler and drummer Jesse Simpson.
The music on The Painter is characterized by strong unison lines, at the same time humorous, atmospheric and full of energy.
The album was included in a list of the Best Albums (****) of 2021 by Downbeat Magazine.
