von Samir Akika / Unusual Symptoms
__
“Not everyone will understand your journey. That’s okay. You’re here to live your life, not to make everyone under¬stand.” (Banksy) — Punk, cineast, dance rebel: The list of labels attached to Samir Akika throughout his choreographer’s life is long. Some may evoke a joyful smirk in him while others may not actually be that far off. Most agree that there is a love for telling stories at work here, a deep interest in his protagonists as well as the courage to reinvent his artistic language time and again. In his works, Samir Akika visits spaces that defy unequivocal definition, where the usual appears new, that make that which was previously unseen visible in secret corners. Always at his side: The Unusual Symptoms ensemble, filling these spaces with life. In a new work, Akika and the dancers again search for the unknown – making the secret familiar.
