Synopsis
Joseph Beuys starb vor vierzig Jahren am 23. Januar 1986.Seine den damaligen Zeitgeist prägende Kunst- und Kulturarbeit hat bis heute nichts an seiner Ausstrahlungs- und Wirkungskraft verloren.
Am Aschermittwoch 1986 hat die Aachener Künstlergruppe BLAUSTICH ® zum Gedenken an Joseph Beuys drei Wochen nach seinem Tod in der Rotunde des Aachener Elisenbrunnens ein rituelles Happening veranstaltet, das auf symbolische Weise Leben und Kunst, Vergänglichkeit und Dauer, getreu dem erweiterten Kunstbegriff des Meisters zum Ereignis nahm.
Ein grüner Zweig des Lebensbaumes und ein junger Sproß der Steineiche wurden mit Filz umgeben in einen kleinen Sarkophag aus frischer Tonerde gebettet.
Das über einer Feuerschale geschmolzene Blei, auf Zweig und Filz gegossen, sollte dann den "Erdensarg" mit seinem Inhalt für immer verschließen.
ARS AETERNA — VITA BREVIS
Die Aktion wurde eingerahmt durch die Enthüllung der Relikte eines anderen szenischen Happenings, das die Gruppe BLAUSTICH am 20. Juli 1984 an gleicher Stelle veranstaltet hatte.
Sie erinnerte 1984 an das aufsehenerregende Fluxus-Ereignis 1964 im Aachener Audimax, welches damals wiederum als Gedenkaktion für die Opfer des gescheiterten Hitler-Attentates vom 20. Juli 1944 verstanden werden sollte.
- IM MEMORIAM -
Am Ende des Aschermittwoch-Rituals '86 wurde schwarze Asche aus der Feuerschale über ein weißes Kreuz aus Steinstaub geschüttet,
mit dem am Anfang der Aktion der Ort des Geschehens bezeichnet wurde.
- VANITAS -
Die Installation des Happenings, ergänzt durch Fotos, Skizzen und Presseberichte wurde dann noch einige Zeit im ATRIUM des Aachener Elisenbrunnens ausgestellt.
Zum Abschluss der BLAUSTICH-Ausstellung wurde am
Samstag, dem 22. Febr. 1986 um 18.00 Uhr
im ATRIUM des Elisenbrunnens eine Film- und Diadokumentation der Aschermittwoch-Aktion vorgeführt.
Anschließend wurde das Tonobjekt des Happenings aktionistisch von Toni Frenken und Caesar Rütten in Gießharz versiegelt.
Der Künstler Walter Verwoert, der ein Meisterschüler von Joseph Beuys war, las dazu aus Texten von JOSEPH BEUYS.
Eine Tonreportage der BLAUSTICH-Aktion vom Aschermittwoch 1986
hatte der WDR am 13.2.86 gesendet.

Joseph Beuys died forty years ago on January 23, 1986.
His art and cultural work, which shaped the spirit of the age, has lost none of its influence and impact to this day.
On Ash Wednesday 1986, three weeks after Joseph Beuys' death, the Aachen-based artists' group BLAUSTICH® held a ritual happening in the rotunda of the Elisenbrunnen fountain in Aachen to commemorate him. True to the master's expanded concept of art, the event symbolically explored life and art, transience and permanence.
A green branch of the Tree of Life and a young holm oak sapling, wrapped in felt, were placed in a small sarcophagus made of fresh clay.
Lead, melted over a fire bowl and poured onto the branch and felt, was then intended to seal the "earth coffin" and its contents forever.
ARS AETERNA — VITA BREVIS
The action was framed by the unveiling of the relics of another theatrical happening that the group BLAUSTICH had staged at the same location on July 20, 1984.
In 1984, she recalled the sensational Fluxus event of 1964 in Aachen's Audimax, which at the time was intended as a memorial to the victims of the failed assassination attempt on Hitler on July 20, 1944.
- IN MEMORIAM -
At the end of the Ash Wednesday ritual of '86, black ash was poured from the fire bowl over a white cross made of stone dust,
which had been used at the beginning of the event to mark the location.
- VANITAS -
The installation of the happening, supplemented by photos, sketches, and press reports, was then exhibited for some
time in the atrium of the Elisenbrunnen fountain in Aachen.
To conclude the BLAUSTICH exhibition, a film and slide documentary of the Ash Wednesday action was shown on
Saturday, February 22, 1986, at 6:00 p.m. afterward, the clay object of the happening was sealed in resin by Toni Frenken and Caesar Rütten in a performance art piece.
The artist Walter Verwoert, who was a master student of Joseph Beuys, read excerpts from texts by Joseph Beuys.
A sound report of the BLAUSTICH action from Ash Wednesday 1986 was broadcast by WDR (West German Broadcasting) on February 13, 1986.
