Die aus Lausanne stammende und seit Jahren in Brooklyn wohnende Pianistin Sylvie Courvoisier verbindet im Spiel mit Mark Feldman oder Mary Halverson, mit Musiker*innen wie Joëlle Léandre oder Wadada Leo Smith unterschiedliche Welten miteinander: die detailreiche Kammermusik ihrer europäischen Wurzeln und die experimentellen Klänge der Jazz-Szene in New York.
Ihr neues Solo-Album To Be Other-Wise zeigt die Pianistin auf der Höhe ihres Könnens. Sie ist verspielt wie intensiv, genauso in der Jazztradition verwurzelt wie suchend und abenteuerlustig. Sylvie Courvoisier ist tief verbunden mit der Musik der Jazzpionierin Irène Schweizer. Eines der letzten Konzerte von Irène Schweizer war am unerhört!-Festival 2018 ein Piano-Duo mit Sylvie Courvoisier. Pour Irène Schweizer betitelt Courvoisier ihr Solo-Programm in Köln – zwei Tage nach einem Solo-Gastspiel am Jazzfestival in Irène‘s Geburtsstadt Schaffhausen.

Die Saxophonistin Ingrid Laubrock – aus Deutschland via London nach Brooklyn ausgewandert – hat bei Intakt Recordsmehr als 20 Alben veröffentlicht. In Köln präsentiert sie ein Trio von höchster Qualität. Zum Duo von Ingrid Laubrock mit dem Schlagzeuger Tom Rainey stösst der Bassist Brandon Lopez. Nicht einfach eine schlichte Erweiterung des Laubrock-Rainey-Duos plus one. Durch den jungen Bassisten (Jahrgang 1988), der bereits auf eine Zusammenarbeit von Dave Liebman über Zeena Parkins bis zu John Zorn verweisen kann, ergibt sich eine andere Dynamik. In der Dreierkonstellation entsteht eine neue Balance und tritt ein verändertes Spiel der Kräfte hervor. Dieselbe Wellenlänge und ein ähnliches Gespür und Verständnis für die übergeordnete Form, die Binnenstruktur, das Timing, Feeling, die Energie, Dichte, Transparenz und Lautstärke. Saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock – who emigrated from Germany to Brooklyn via London – has released more than 20 albums on Intakt Records. In Cologne, she presents a trio of the highest quality. Ingrid Laubrock’s duo with drummer Tom Rainey will be joined by bassist Brandon Lopez. Not just a simple extension of the Laubrock-Rainey duo plus one. The young bassist (born in 1988), who has already worked with Dave Liebman, Zeena Parkins and John Zorn, creates a different dynamic. A new balance is created in the three-piece constellation and a different interplay of forces emerges. The same wavelength and a similar sense and understanding of the overarching form, internal structure, timing, feeling, energy, density, transparency and volume. Dreamlike experiences.
