SeokJong Baek hat nach seinem Debüt am Royal Opera House als Samson in Richard Jones' Neuinszenierung von Saint-Saëns SAMSON ET DALILA internationales Aufsehen erregt und etabliert sich schnell als bemerkenswerter Künstler, der für seinen fesselnden Lirico/Spinto-Klang und seine raffinierte technische Leistung weithin gelobt wird.
Baeks von der Kritik gefeierte Darstellung des Samson war nicht nur ein Haus- und Rollendebüt, sondern auch sein professionelles Debüt als Tenor, nachdem er während der Zeit der Coronavirus-Sperre vom Bariton zum Tenor gewechselt war. Als Bariton war er Adler-Stipendiat und Mitglied des Merola-Programms an der San Francisco Opera sowie ehemaliger Resident Artist der Lyric Opera of Kansas und Absolvent der Manhattan School of Music.
In der Spielzeit 2023/24 wird Baek eine Reihe von wichtigen Haus- und Rollendebüts in Europa und den USA geben, darunter sein mit Spannung erwartetes Debüt an der Metropolitan Opera in New York als Ismaele / NABUCCO, sein Rollendebüt als Calaf / TURANDOT, sein Rollendebüt als Pinkerton / MADAMA BUTTERFLY am Royal Opera House sowie eine Reihe von Debüts am Teatro San Carlo als Calaf oder ein Verdi-Requiem mit der Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rom unter der Leitung von Sir Antonio Pappano.
Zu den jüngsten Höhepunkten zählen Rollendebüts als Turiddu / CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA am Royal Opera House, Cavaradossi / TOSCA an der Arizona Opera und Radames / AIDA am Royal Opera House Covent Garden, wobei er dieselbe Rolle auch konzertant mit dem Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria an der Seite von Elina Garanca und unter der Leitung von Karel Mark Chichon interpretierte.
