Von 2020 bis 2022 war er am Theater Bielefeld engagiert. Er arbeitete u. a. mit Regisseur:innen wie Milan Peschel, Lilja Rupprecht und Ronny Jakubaschk. Neben der Theaterarbeit sammelte er Erfahrungen als Sprecher, sowie in Film und Fernsehen. Hier arbeitete er u. a. mit den Regisseur:innen Esther Preussler und Andreas Dresen zusammen. Neben seiner schauspielerischen Tätigkeit realisierte er mit Janis Kuhnt und Johannes Hegemann den Film , der im April 2022 Kinopremiere feierte. Seit der Spielzeit 2022/23 ist er am Schauspiel Hannover engagiert. Seit der Spielzeit 2022/23 ist Tom Scherer Ensemblemitglied des Schauspiel Hannover und spielt u. a. in zwei herren von real madrid und Unsere Elf.
