Der Sessel kommt (wieder)

Synopsis

On 16 September 2000, the ‘Minimal-SESSEL’ reappeared,
which had opened a showcase exhibition a month earlier at a happening near Aachen Cathedral, appeared again.
This time at an exhibition opening at the ART-Pütz gallery in Montzen.
The gallery owner was the artist and art collector Dieter Schlusche.
On this evening, an excerpt from the original slide story ‘Der Sessel kommt’ from 1975 was shown for the first time in combination with the original 16-mm film documentation of the armchair parade through Aachen's city centre. The accompanying performance and presentation were videographed by me at the time. The slide and film material has only been digitised and prepared for further processing since 2018.

A reminder:
Half a century ago, Aachen saw the first publication of
the SESSEL was first published in Aachen.
It appeared in the fields around the Schneeberg, revealed itself to some Aachen art lovers and accepted their invitation to the city,
which duly welcomed him.
The cathedral, town hall and Elisenbrunnen fountain were three outstanding stops on the SESSEL's spectacular programme of visits.

With a festive banquet in the ballroom of the former
Galerie Sammlung-Ludwig and sensational action projections in the old imperial city marked the end of the first
SESSEL visit.
In the years that followed, astonishing phenomena of the special

Around the turn of the millennium
the SESSEL
once again signalled to its faithful art lovers in Aachen that the year 2000 would be marked by a summer visit to Charlemagne's throne city.

The ‘size’ of the
SESSEL expression
may have been borrowed from minimal art at the time, but the proximity of the
SESSEL appearance
to the Karlsthron was given the greatest possible significance.
In accordance with this wish, the BLAUSTICH group, in friendly co-operation with the Atelierhaus-Verein Aachen (AHA)
to the ‘Minimal-SESSEL-Reception 2000’
on 16 August 2000 in the vicinity of Aachen Cathedral. The showcase exhibition ‘Der Sessel kommt wieder’ was opened with a happening.
