In Düsseldorf geboren studierte Robert Heimann zunächst Schulmusik, Germanistik und Pädagogik sowie Chorleitung an der Musikhochschule und der Universität Köln. Anschließend absolvierte er ein Kapellmeisterstudium bei Klaus Arp an der Musikhochschule Mannheim. Wichtige Impulse erhielt er durch die Zusammenarbeit mit Helmuth Rilling.
Den vielseitigen Musiker führte eine Dirigierassistenz 1999 zur Opera Company of Philadelphia und ein Stipendium zum Oregon Bach Festival im Jahr 2000 nach Eugene/USA. Robert Heimann war u. a. als Assistent des Chordirektors an der Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. Mit der Spielzeit 2005/06 ist er zum Chordirektor der Komischen Oper Berlin ernannt worden. Unter seiner Leitung wurden die Chorsolisten der Komischen Oper Berlin zum »Opernchor des Jahres« ernannt (Jahrbuch der Zeitschrift Opernwelt 2007).

Born in Düsseldorf, Robert Heimann has studied first school music, German language and literature studies and education science, as well as choir direction at the Music Academy and the University of Cologne. Subsequently, he has absolved his studies as director of music with Klaus Arp at the Mannheim Music Academy. He has obtained important inspiration through the cooperation with Helmuth Rilling.
A conducting assistance has taken the all-round musician in 1999 to the Opera Company of Philadelphia and a scholarship to the Oregon Bach Festival in summer 2000 to Eugene/USA.
Robert Heimann was, amongst others, assistant to the choir director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. Since the season 2005/06 he holds the position of the Choir Director of the Komische Oper Berlin.
