Der Niederländer begann sein Studium an der Musikhochschule von Utrecht bei Udo Zimmermann und studierte dann bei dem Tenor James McCray. Er wirkte an internationalen Produktionen wie den Requiems von Verdi und Mozart, Schumanns Szenen aus Goethes Faust und Loriots Ring an einem Abend mit. Zunächst war der Bariton am Meininger Theater engagiert, wo er u. a. in der Titelpartie im Don Giovanni, als Scarpia und als Holländer zu sehen war. Nanco de Vries ist seit der Spielzeit 2002/03 Ensemblemitglied der Komischen Oper Berlin und war in den Partien des Altgesell in Jenufa, des Don Fernando in Fidelio, des Sprechers in Die Zauberflöte, des Melisso in Alcina, des Schaunard in La Bohème und des Mr. Gedge in Albert Herring zu erleben. In der Spielzeit 2005/06 wird er außerdem den Leander in Die Liebe zu drei Orangen, weiterhin den Mr. Gedge in Albert Herring und den Prinz Afron in der Neuproduktion Der goldene Hahn singen.

The Dutch began his studies at the Music Academy of Utrecht with Udo Zimmermann and studied afterwards with the tenor James McCray. He took part in international productions such as the Requia by Verdi and Mozart, Schumann' s Scenes from Goethe`s Faust and Loriot' s Ring on one evening. First the bariton was engaged at the Meiningen Theatre, where he played amongst others the title part in Don Giovanni, appeared as Scarpia in Tosca and was seen as Dutchman. Nanco de Vries joined the ensemble of the Komische Oper Berlin in the 2003/04 season. Since then he sang the parts of Altgesell in Jenufa, of Don Fernando in Fidelio, the Speaker in The Magic Flute, he portrayed Melisso in Alcina and Schaunard in La Bohème and played Mr. Gedge in Albert Herring. In the 2005/06 season he will as well sing the part of Leander in The Love of Three Oranges, furthermore he will portray Mr. Gedge in Albert Herring and Prince Afron in the new production The Golden Cockerel.
