In der Spielzeit 2007/08 steht die Sopranistin als Rosalinde in der Neuproduktion »Die Fledermaus« auf der Bühne der Komischen Oper Berlin.

Born in Rostock, Gun-Brit Barkmin received her vocal training in her home town and in Dresden. In 1995 she has passed her state examination »with distinction«. She was masterscholarship holder of the Free State of Saxony and took masterclasses amongst others with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Carlo Bergonzi and Hartmut Haenchen. In 1996 she gave several recitals and took up a guest engagement in Vienna. Gun-Brit Barkmin came in 1998 to the Freiberg Stadttheater and changed in the year 2000 to the Komische Oper Berlin as a permanent member of the ensemble; here she sang, amongst others Mimi in »La Bohème«, Alice Ford in »Falstaff« and was seen, amongst others, as 5th Maidservant in »Elektra, as Amelia in Aribert Reimann's »Bernarda Alba's House« and as Governess in Britten's »The Turn of the Screw«, which was directed by Harry Kupfer. For this role portrait she was awarded the Daphne Prize by the Berlin theatre community in 2002. Since the 2002/03 season, she is a permanent guest soloist at the Komische Oper Berlin. In the last seasons, she has portrayed, amongst others, Ghita in »The Dwarf« by Alexander von Zemlinsky, the title part in »Jenufa« and Marie in »Wozzeck. Recently, the part of Sylva Varescu in »The Gypsy Princess« has been added to her repertory. In spring 2005 she sang Marie in »Wozzeck« at the Welsh National Opera.
In the 2006/07 season, the soprano will be seen onstage at the Komische Oper Berlin as Sylva Varescu in »The Gypsy Princess«.
