Johnson hat fast 20 Alben veröffentlicht und international über dreitausend Konzerte mit Künstlern wie Anthony Braxton, Geri Allen, Mary Halvorson, David Grisman, Tyshawn Sorey, Ingrid Laubrock, Henry Grimes, Candido Camero, Sam Bush, Nels Cline und vielen anderen gegeben.
Er hat Auftragswerke für die Jerome Foundation, Society of Composers Inc, University of Glasgow komponiert, war an den Aufnahmen von über siebzig Alben beteiligt und ist in Spike Lees Oscar-prämiertem Film The BlacKkKlansman zu hören.

Bei diesem Konzert präsentiert Max Johnson sein neues Trio mit Neta Raanan am Tenorsaxophon und Eliza Salem am Schlagzeug, und feiert damit sein 2024 erschienenes Album I’ll see you again. Das Trio erkundet Johnsons traditionellere Jazzkompositionen, die von den Innovatoren Charles Mingus, Mal Waldron und Thelonious Monk inspiriert sind, wobei stets Johnsons einzigartige energetische und chaotische Klangwelt zum Tragen kommt.
