Zudem kreierte er das Lichtdesign für zahlreiche
Tanz- und Theaterstücke und komponierte die Musik für NJÁLA (Iceland Dance Company und Reykjavík City Theatre 2015). 2016 erhielt er zusammen mit Árni Heiðar Karlsson den Icelandic Theatre Award in der Kategorie Beste Komposition. 2017 war Valdimar Jóhannsson Co-Künstlerischer Leiter von „Sacrifice – A Festival Of Common Things Made Holy“. Er arbeitet mit Künstler_innen wie Gabríela Friðriksdóttir, Matthew Barney und SigurRós.
