Thomas Tyllack wurde in München geboren, wo er seine Ausbildung als Cellist bei Fritz Kiskalt absolvierte. 1982 legte er das Staatsexamen mit Auszeichnung ab, zwei Jahre später folgte das Meisterklassendiplom. Thomas Tyllack war Mitglied des Weltjugendorchesters und Teilnehmer der Menuhin-Akademie Gstaad. Er besuchte Meisterkurse bei Radu Aldulescu und beim Alban Berg Quartett. 1984 wurde er Solocellist an der Deutschen Oper am Rhein in Duisburg. Seit 1986 ist er Solocellist bei den Philharmonikern Hamburg. Neben seiner Liebe zum Orchesterspiel in Oper und Konzert widmet er sich auch intensiv der Kammermusik. Mit besonderer Freude und großem Engagement gibt er sein Wissen an seine Schüler weiter.
