In Berlin geboren, wuchs Momme Röhrbein in seiner Heimatstadt, New York und Havanna auf. Ein erstes Praktikum führte ihn zu Karl-Ernst Herrmann an die damalige Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer. Nach dem Abitur 1983 absolvierte er mehrere Assistenzen bei Karl-Ernst Herrmann (Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz), am Théâtre de la Monnaie, Brüssel, am Theater an der Wien und an der Staatsoper Wien. Daneben arbeitete er mehrfach als Assistent und Ausstatter beim Film. Seit 1989 ist Momme Röhrbein freischaffend tätig und arbeitete seitdem mit Regisseuren wie Katharina Thalbach (z. B. MIT DEM FEUER SPIELEN von August Strindberg am Thalia Theater Hamburg, DER HAUPTMANN VON KÖPENICK und DIE MÖWE am Maxim Gorki Theater, Berlin, STIEFEL MUSS STERBEN von Thomas Brasch und ORPHEUS IN DER UNTERWELT von Jacques Offenbach am Theater Basel, ERNST – UND SEINE TIEFERE BEDEUTUNG von Oscar Wilde an der Komödie am Kurfürstendamm), Matthias Hartmann (z. B. DAS KÄTHCHEN VON HEILBRONN, NACH JERUSALEM von Tankred Dorst und PEER GYNT am Schauspielhaus Hamburg, am Residenztheater München JAGDZEIT von Gundi Ellert), Stephan Suschke (z.
