Maximilian Hirning studierte zunächst klassischen Kontrabass an der HMT Rostock, bevor er sein Studium im Fach Jazz-Kontrabass bei Henning Sieverts an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater München aufnahm. Er arbeitet als freischaffender Bassist und Komponist im Bereich Free Jazz, analoge Techno-Musik und Punk. Mit seinem Klaviertrio LBT und dem von ihm komponierten Technoprogramm „Way up in the blue“ gewann er 2018 das Finale des BMW Welt Jazz Award und den Nachwuchs-Jazzpreis der Jazzwoche Burghausen 2019. Weiterhin arbeitet als Komponist für Theater- und Tanzprojekte, zuletzt für Sophie Jachs Inszenierung von DAS KÄTHCHEN VON HEILBRONN am Residenztheater München.
