Klaus Missbach wurde 1957 in Nürnberg geboren. Studium der Germanistik und Amerikanistik an der Friedrich-Alexander Universität in Erlangen. Von 1982-1990 Dramaturg am Schauspielhaus Nürnberg. Es folgten Engagements von 1990-1996 am Thalia Theater Hamburg (Intendanz Jürgen Flimm), von 1996-1999 als Chefdramaturg am Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf. Von 2000-2005 war Klaus Missbach geschäftsführender und leitender Dramaturg am Schauspielhaus Bochum, von 2005-2009 Chefdramaturg und künstlerischer Betriebsdirektor am Schauspielhaus Zürich und von 2009-2019 Chefdramaturg am Burgtheater Wien (2009-2014 Direktion Matthias Hartmann, 2014-2019 Direktion Karin Bergmann). Parallel dazu übernahm er von 1992-1996 einen Lehrauftrag für Dramaturgie am Studiengang Schauspieltheaterregie der Universität Hamburg. Von 2000-2005 war er Dozent für Dramaturgie an der Westfälischen Schauspielschule Bochum und seit 2019 ist er Dozent für Angewandte Dramaturgie an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien. Am Theater Bremen verantwortete er in der Spielzeit 24/25 die Dramaturgie bei der Uraufführung von „Die Erfindung des Jazz im Donbass“ nach dem Roman von Serhij Zhandan in der Regie von Armin Petras.
