Karl Shymanovitz erhielt bereits im Kindesalter die erste musikalische Ausbildung am Klavier, an der Violine, am Kontrabass und an der Oboe. Noch während des Studiums an der Interlochen Arts Academy und der University of Michigan gewann er zahlreiche Wettbewerbe und war als Musiker in mehreren Orchestern aktiv. Nach seinem Diplom im Fach Dirigieren am Cincinnati Conservatory of Music gastierte er als Dirigent bei zahlreichen Orchestern in den USA, Kanada und Mexiko. Um italienisches Repertoire und Aufführungspraxis am Teatro del Maggio Musicale unter der Leitung von Zubin Mehta zu studieren sowie als Sprachcoach für Opernfestivals zog er 2010 nach Italien. 2011 wurde er musikalischer Leiter der El Paso Opera in Texas, mit der auf einer Tournee nach Bhutan zum ersten Mal eine westliche Oper in dem asiatischen Land aufführte. 2013 wurde er Korrepetitor an der Komischen Oper Berlin. Seit Dezember 2015 ist er zweiter Kapellmeister und Studienleiter am Theater Aachen.
