Anfang der 70er Jahre begann Josiane Balasko ihre Schauspielkarriere bei der Pariser Theatergruppe ›Splendid‹. Ihr erster Kinofilm war Roman Polanskis subtiler Horrorfilm ›Der Mieter‹ (1976), welcher sie über die Landesgrenzen hinaus bekannt machte. Ihre erste Regiearbeit schaffte sie 1985 mit ›Sac de noeufs‹. Mit Daniel Auteuil inszenierte sie 1991 ›Mein Leben ist die Hölle‹. Darauf folgte ihr größter Erfolg mit der erotischen Komödie ›Eine Frau für Zwei‹. Für das Drehbuch erhielt sie einen César, für die Regie war sie nominiert. Ihr Stück ›Liebe, Lügen, Lampenfieber‹ wurde mit großem Erfolg auch in der Komödie am Kurfürstendamm gespielt.
