Erste Engagements 1994-96 am Staatstheater Meiningen sowie 1996-99 am Nationaltheater Mannheim. Von 1999-2009 festes Ensemblemitglied an der Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin. Seit 2009 arbeitet er vermehrt für TV-Produktionen, spielte in »Weissensee« (2010) von Friedemann Fromm den Stasi-Offizier Falk Kupfer, wirkte u. a. im Dreiteiler »Die Wölfe« (2009), in der Krimi-Reihe »Bella Block« und diversen »Tatort«-Folgen mit. Jörg Hartmann wurde 2009 mit der Goldenen Nymphe beim Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo sowie mit dem internationalen Fernsehpreis Emmy für »Die Wölfe« ausgezeichnet.
