Zuletzt trat der Künstler in der Titelpartie von RIGOLETTO und als Michele in IL TABARRO an der Metropolitan Opera, als Germont in LA TRAVIATA und als Jago in OTELLO an der Pariser Oper, als Germont am Royal Opera House Covent Garden, als NABUCCO und Jago in OTELLO an der Deutschen Oper Berlin, als Jago an der Washington National Opera, als Scarpia in TOSCA am Teatro San Carlo in Neapel und in CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA am Teatro San Carlo in Neapel sowie in den Sassi von Matera auf.
Zu den größten Erfolgen des Sängers zählen Auftritte als Rigoletto und Macbeth sowie in TOSCA, AIDA, CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA, PAGLIACCI und CHOWANSCHTSCHINA an der Metropolitan Opera; NABUCCO, TOSCA und CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA an der Wiener Staatsoper; RIGOLETTO, LA TRAVIATA und AIDA an der Mailänder Scala, TOSCA, FRANCESCA DA RIMINI und AIDA an der Opéra national de Paris, ANDREA CHÉNIER in San Francisco und Berlin, AIDA in San Francisco, LA GIOCONDA, TOSCA und RIGOLETTO in Berlin, SIMON BOCCANEGRA (Titelpartie) und AIDA am Teatro Real Madrid, CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA und PAGLIACCI am Gran Teatro del Liceu Barcelona, PAGLIACCI an der Los Angeles Opera, NABUCCO und LA TRAVIATA in der Arena von Verona, CHOWANSCHTSCHINA bei den BBC Proms und FALSTAFF (Titelpartie) am New National Theatre Tokyo.
In Tbilisi geboren studierte George Gagnidze am Staatlichen Konservatorium seiner Heimatstadt und debütierte 1996 im Paliashvili-Opernhaus als Renato in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA.
Im Laufe seiner Karriere arbeitete George Gagnidze mit vielen namhaften Dirigenten und Regisseuren zusammen, so z. B. mit James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Fabio Luisi, James Conlon, Semyon Bychkov, Plácido Domingo, Mikko Franck, Jesús López-Cobos, Nicola Luisotti, Daniel Oren, Gianandrea Noseda, Kirill Petrenko, Yuri Temirkanov; Luc Bondy, Liliana Cavani, Robert Carsen, Peter Stein, Giancarlo Del Monaco, Henning Brockhaus und Robert Sturua.
