Eva Butzkies, geboren in Freiburg, studierte Kostümdesign in Hannover und hospitierte bei der Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Anschließend folgte eine Kostümassistenz am Theater Basel. Als freischaffende Kostümbildnerin ist sie in den Bereichen Schauspiel, Tanztheater, Performance und Oper in Deutschland und der Schweiz sowohl an Theatern wie auch in der freien Szene tätig. Zu ihren Opernarbeiten zählen Leoncavallos Pagliacci am Konzert Theater Bern, Calixto Bieitos Così fan tutte-Projekt am Theater Basel sowie Eugen Onegin am Prinzregententheater München und der Oper Halle und Carmen an der Staatsoper Stuttgart. Ihre Baseler Produktion Dido and Aeneas wurde 2007 zum Berliner Theatertreffen eingeladen. Am Luzerner Theater stattete sie die Tanzproduktion Tanz 32: I am who I am who I am aus. Zudem entwarf sie Kostüme für das Großprojekt 1918.CH – 100 Jahre Landesstreik und die Freiluftaufführungen Don Quixote – The Making of Dreams und Cyclope 2012 und 2014 in Biel, Basel und Winterthur. Gemeinsam mit Regisseurin Barbora Horáková Joly entstand bereits 2015 die multimediale Oper Romulus der Große.
