Dovlet Nurgeldiyev wurde in Ashgabat geboren. Der Tenor begann 1994 seine Gesangsausbildung in seinem Heimatland Turkmenistan und ging 2001 in die Niederlande, wo er erst am Konservatorium von Tilburg und später am Königlichen Konservatorium in Den Haag sein Studium beendete. 2005 bekam er die Möglichkeit, mit Valery Gergiev zusammenzuarbeiten. Von 2008 bis 2010 war der Tenor Mitglied des Internationalen Opernstudios der Staatsoper Hamburg. Hier war er unter anderem zu erleben als Fenton in »Falstaff«, Le Chevalier in »Dialogues des Carmélites«, Camille de Rosillon in »Die lustige Witwe«, Steuermann in »Der fliegende Holländer« und als Arturo in »Lucia di Lammermoor«. Seit der Spielzeit 2010/11 gehört der junge Tenor zum Ensemble der Staatsoper und übernimmt zahlreiche Partien im Haus an der Dammtorstraße. Als Nemorino (»L’Elisir d’Amore«), Lenski (»Eugen Onegin«), Alfredo (»La Traviata«) und als Cassio (»Otello«) gab er seine Rollendebüts. Einen großen Erfolg konnte er als Don Ottavio in einer Neuproduktion von »Don Giovanni« feiern. Dovlet Nurgeldiyev wurde mehrfach in nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerben ausgezeichnet. 2009 gewann er den Preis der Deutschen Grammophon beim von Michael Schade initiierten Stella Maris-Wettbewerb und arbeitete für Probeaufnahmen mit der renommierten Plattenfirma zusammen.
