Der Italiener Claudio Sgura wurde 1974 in Brindisi geboren und studierte in Lecce bei Maria Mazzotta. Zu seinen wichtigen Debüts zählen unter anderem Giorgio Germont in »La Traviata« am Paisiello Theater in Lecce, Escamillo in »Carmen«, erneut Escamillo 2005 am Theater in Cagliari sowie im selben Jahr sein Debüt am Teatro Comunale in Bologna in »La Traviata«. Ebenfalls 2005 gewann der Sänger den ersten Preis beim internationalen Gesangswettbewerb in Viterbo. Im Jahr darauf wurde er beim Voci Verdiane-Wettbewerb in Busseto ausgezeichnet und debütierte an der Mailänder Scala als Sharpless in »Madama Butterfly«. Des Weiteren trat er als Ezio (»Attila«) in Piacenza, in »Il Trovatore« in Busseto und Savona und bei der Uraufführung von Andrea Liberovicis »Titania la Rossa« in Parma auf. In Cremona war er erstmals in Verdis »Macbeth« zu erleben, bevor er zurück an die Scala kehrte, wo er mit Placido Domingo in »Cyrano« sang. Sein Hamburg-Debüt gibt Claudio Sgura im Februar 2009 als »Escamillo« in Carmen.
