Christina Schmitt studierte Bühnenbild an der Universität der Künste in Berlin. Als freischaffende Bühnen- und Kostümbildnerin verbindet eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit den Regisseur*innen Sebastian Baumgarten, Lilja Rupprecht, Simon Solberg und Georg Schütky. Engagements führten sie unter anderem an das Schauspiel Zürich, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Schauspiel Köln, Schauspielhaus Wien, Staatsoper Hamburg, Hebbel am Ufer, ans Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus und ans Maxim Gorki Theater. Zuletzt entwarf sie u. a. Bühne und Kostüme für EINE STRASSE IN MOSKAU am Staatsschauspiel Dresden (Regie: Sebastian Baumgarten), Kostüme für ODE am Deutschen Theater (Regie: Thomas Melle) und für Luigi Nonos AL GRAN SOLE am Theater Basel.
Mit HAUEN•UND•STECHEN arbeitet sie seit 2013 und bringt ihre überbordende Bühnen- und Kostümbildsprache in die gemeinsamen Arbeiten ein. Dazu zählen ORPHEUS (Hamburgische Staatsoper 2016), NOTRE CARMEN (Théâtre de l’Athénée Paris und Sophiensæle Berlin 2017) und ZEIG MIR DEINE WUNDER (Bayerische Staatsoper 2018). 2020/21 gestaltete sie Bühne und Kostüme bei der NOperas!-Produktion KITESH in Halle, Wuppertal und Bremen.
