1991 in Busan in Südkorea geboren, erhielt Chanmin Chung zunächst einen weit gefächerten Unterricht auf Klavier, Geige, Klarinette, Trompete und Querflöte. An der „Seoul Arts Highschool“ belegte er das Hauptfach Komposition. Im Jahr 2013 nahm er sein Studium an der Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar in der Klasse von Prof. Nicolás Pasquet und Prof. Ekhart Wycik sowie auch Prof. Gunter Kahlert und Prof. Ulrich Vogel auf. Nach seinem Masterabschluss in Weimar studiert Chanmin Chung seit 2019 Orchesterdirigieren an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ Leipzig bei Prof. Matthias Foremny in dessen Meisterklasse.
Als musikalischer Assistent war er 2018 für Johannes Braun beim Landesjugendsinfonieorchester Hessen tätig sowie 2017 für Johannes Klumpp beim Landesjugendorchester Berlin. 2016 assistierte er Johannes Pell in der Produktion von Puccinis „La Bohème“ am Theater Nordhausen und 2015 Lorenzo Viotti beim Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE). Chanmin Chung wurde 2018 in die Förderung des Dirigentenforums des Deutschen Musikrats aufgenommen und nahm am Kritischen Orchester teil, wo er 2018 Finalist wurde. Dirigier-Meisterkurse führten ihn u.a. zu Jorma Panula, Simone Young, Christian Thielemann, Will Humburg, Marko Letonja, Cornelius Meister, Kristiina Poska, Gabriel Feltz und Enrico Delamboye. Von 2017 bis 2021 war er als 2. Kapellmeister und Assistenz des GMDs am Theater Erfurt tätig. Ab der Spielzeit 2021/22 ist er 1. Kapellmeister und stellvertretender Generalmusikdirektor am Theater Aachen.
