Rollen in zahlreichen Film- und Fernsehproduktionen (»Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei«, Regie: Hans Weingartner; »Good Bye, Lenin!«, Regie: Wolfgang Becker, »Der Mann von der Botschaft«, Regie: Dito Tsintsadze). 2005 Auszeichnung mit dem Deutschen Filmpreis für seine Rolle in »Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei«. 2006 Auszeichnung mit dem Goldenen Leoparden beim Filmfestival von Locarno als bester Darsteller für die Titelrolle in »Der Mann von der Botschaft«.
2006 Debüt als Regisseur an den Hamburger Kammerspielen mit der Inszenierung von Edward Albees »Die Ziege oder wer ist Sylvia«. Weitere Regiearbeiten u.a. die Deutsche Erstaufführung von Yasmina Rezas »Der Gott des Gemetzels« sowie »Der Ignorant und der Wahnsinnige« von Thomas Bernhard, beide am Schauspielhaus Bochum.
