Björn Matthiessen (1. Schlagzeuger), geboren in Flensburg, begann neunjährig mit dem Klavierspiel und erhielt die erste Schlagzeug-Ausbildung im Alter von 14 Jahren. Noch während der Schulzeit war er 1. Preisträger bei »Jugend musiziert«. Er studierte bei den Professoren David Punto (Pauke) und Thomas Lutz (Schlagzeug) an der Hochschule der Künste Berlin. Gleichzeitig arbeitete er im Orchester des Nationaltheaters Mannheim als Volontär. Mit Beginn der Spielzeit 2000|2001 verpflichtete ihn die Deutsche Oper Berlin als Schlagzeuger, seit 2011 ist er Erster Schlagzeuger. Zwischen 2004 bis 2011 hatte er einen Lehrauftrag für Schlagzeug an der Universität der Künste Berlin inne.
