Von 1965-73 Bühnenbildner am Dramatischen Theater in Riga. Von 1973-92 Ausstattungsleitung des Theaters der Jugend, seit 1992 der Lettischen Nationaloper in Riga. Zusammenarbeit mit Alvis Hermanis u. a. am Neuen Theater Riga (»Arcadia« von Tom Stoppard, 1998) und am Teatro Storchi in Modena (»Die Fräulein von Wilko« nach dem Roman von Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz, 2010). Seit 1971 Dozent am Institut für Bühnenbild an der Lettischen Kunstakademie, seit 1994 dort Professor und Leiter des Lehrstuhls.
Für seine Arbeit als Bühnenbildner mit zahlreichen Preisen ausgezeichnet, u. a. mehrfach mit dem lettischen Theaterpreis als Bühnenbildner des Jahres, sowie 2010 mit dem italienischen Theaterpreis Il Premio Ubu als bester Bühnenbildner der Spielzeit für seine Arbeit in »Die Fräulein von Wilko«.
