In Deutschland inszenierte er u. a. am Schauspiel Köln »Oblomow« von Iwan Alexandrowitsch Gontscharow (2011), am Burgtheater in Wien »Platonov« von Anton Tschechow (2011) und »Das weite Land« von Arthur Schnitzler (2011). Zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, u. a. als Bester Schauspieler des Jahres für seine Rolle als Jean in »Fräulein Julie« von August Strindberg (2004), mit dem Montblanc Young Directors Award für »Der Revisor« (2003), mit dem Europäischen Theaterpreis Neue Theatrale Realitäten (2007), dem Nestroy-Preis für »Eine Familie« (2010) und dem Konrad-Wolf-Preis der Berliner Akademie der Künste. »Eugen Onegin« war Alvis Hermanis’ erste
Arbeit in Berlin. Im Dezember 2012 hatte seine zweite Arbeit, Gorkis »Sommergäste«, Premiere.
