Aleksandar Denic, geboren in Belgrad, studierte Bühnenbild und Set-Design an der Belgrader Universität der Künste. Seit 30 Jahren ist er als Bühnenbildner für Theater und Film tätig, darunter für Emir Kusturicas Film Underground (1995). Ihn verbindet eine langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit Frank Castorf, etwa bei zahlreichen Produktionen an der Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin, an den Schauspielhäusern Hamburg und Zürich, an der Oper Stuttgart sowie bei den Bayreuther Festspielen, wo er das Bühnenbild für dessen Inszenierung von Richard Wagners DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN entwarf. Dafür wurde er u. a. von der Opernwelt 2014 zum „Bühnenbildner des Jahres“ gewählt und erhielt den Theaterpreis FAUST. Gemeinsam mit Frank Castorf erarbeitet er nun auch Verdis Meisterwerk LA FORZA DEL DESTINO, mit dem die Deutsche Oper Berlin den Premierenreigen 2019/2020 eröffnet.
Seit 2010 ist er Professor für Film, TV und Bühnenbild an der Fakultät für Kunst und Design in Belgrad.
