Arnold Jacobshagen ist Professor für Musikwissenschaft und Leiter des Instituts für Historische Musikwissenschaft an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. Nach dem Studium der Musikwissenschaft, Geschichte und Philosophie in Berlin, Wien und Paris war er Musikdramaturg am Staatstheater Mainz und Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter und Privatdozent am Forschungsinstitut für Musiktheater der Universität Bayreuth. Er gehört dem Vorstand des Joseph-Haydn-Instituts sowie des Meyerbeer-Instituts an und ist Herausgeber der Zeitschrift »Die Musikforschung«. Zahlreiche Buchveröffentlichungen, insbesondere zur Oper des 18. bis 21. Jahrhunderts.
