Piero Pretti lernte bei Gianni Mastino und debütierte im Jahr 2006 als Rodolfo in LA BOHEME. Wenig später war er am Teatro Communale Pergolesi in Jesi und am Teatro Communale Treviso in LA TRAVIATA zu Gast, in Sassari in POLIUTO und in Ravenna in IL TROVATORE. Als Achille / IPHIGENIA IN AULIDE sang er an der Oper in Rom unter Leitung von Riccardo Muti und als Arrigo / I VESPRI SICILIANI unter Gianandrea Noseda am Teatro Regio in Turin und in Neapel unter Gianluigi Gelmetti. Desweiteren trat er mit einem Arienkonzert beim Ravenna-Festival auf.
Seine Engagements umfassen u. a. Herzog von Mantua / RIGOLETTO zunächst in Sassari, Como, Brescia, Pavia und Cremona, bald darauf in Turin und Parma, schließlich ab 2012 an der Scala di Milano, der Bayerischen Staatsoper in München, in Genua sowie im September 2014 am Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. Er sang in LUISA MILLER an der Mailänder Scala, in I DUE FOSCARI am Teatro Massimo in Palermo, in NABUCCO an der Mailänder Scala und in Orange, in LA TRAVIATA am Teatro Regio in Turin, am La Fenice in Venedig wie auch an der Wiener Staatsoper, in MADAMA BUTTERFLY in Auckland, in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA an der Mailänder Scala, in IL TROVATORE in Amsterdam, in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR an der Scala di Milano und in Bari sowie unter Gianandrea Noseda in Tokio den Tenorpart in Verdis MESSA DA REQUIEM und in Rossinis STABAT MATER.
