(beispielsweise 1996 bei einem Salzburg-Gastspiel) oder Elektra begeisterte und polarisierte sie; sie arbeitete eng mit der Regisseurin Deborah Warner zusammen und übernahm kürzlich für diese die Regie einer EUGEN ONEGIN-Inszenierung an der New Yorker Metropolitan Opera, in der Valery Gergiev die musikalische Leitung innehatte und Anna Netrebko ihr Rollendebüt als Tatjana gab.
In Filmen wie „Jane Eyre“ oder „The Last September“ wirkte sie ebenso mit wie in zahlreichen „Harry Potter“-Verfilmungen. Dort spielt sie Harrys Tante Petunia Dursley.
