Auch gab er sein Hausdebüt an der Bayerischen Staatsoper als Manrico / IL TROVATORE unter Asher Fisch, die Titelpartie in ROBERTO DEVEREUX gab er an der San Francisco Opera. Seine Saison 2019/2020 begann dann an der Deutschen Oper Berlin, wo Russell Thomas in Frank Castorfs Neuproduktion von LA FORZA DEL DESTINO als Don Alvaro zu erleben war.
Zu den Highlights der letzten Jahre zählen u. a. Stiffelio an der Oper Frankfurt, Turiddu / CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA an der Deutschen Oper Berlin, Cavaradossi / TOSCA an der LA Opera sowie die Titelpartie in LA CLEMENZA DI TITO im Rahmen der Salzburger Festspiele und in dieser Saison auch in Los Angeles unter Stabführung von James Conlon. Als Gabriele Adorno / SIMON BOCCANEGRA gab er sein Debüt am Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, als Pollione / NORMA war er an der Lyric Opera of Chicago zu Gast.
Auf dem Konzertpodium interpretierte Russell Thomas unlängst im Rahmen der BBC Proms den Tenorpart in Beethovens 9. Sinfonie sowie mit dem Dallas Symphony Mahlers „Das Lied von der Erde“, jeweils unter Leitung von Donald Runnicles.
