Ermonela Jaho wurde in Albanien geboren und begann auch dort ihre Gesangskarriere. Bereits mit 17 Jahren gab sie ihr professionelles Debüt als Violetta (»La Traviata«). An der Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rom schloss sie ihr Studium ab und sang kurz darauf bereits an zahlreichen führenden italienischen und internationalen Theaterhäusern, beispielsweise am Teatro San Carlo Neapel und am Teatro La Fenice Venedig, im Royal Opera House Covent Garden, an der Metropolitan Opera und an der Bayerischen Staatsoper. Ermonela Jaho gastierte außerdem in Berlin, Toulouse, Genf, Lyon, Rom und Paris. Ihr Amerika-Debüt gab die Sopranistin 2005 als Mimì (»La Bohème«) an der Michigan Opera. Seitdem war sie auch in Philadelphia und New York zu erleben sowie in Peru. Zu ihrem Repertoire gehören außerdem Partien wie Susanna (»Le Nozze di Figaro«), Micaëla (»Carmen«), Adina (»L’Elisir d’Amore«), Blanche (»Dialogues des Carmélites«) und Amina (»La Sonnambula«). Große Erfolge feierte sie unter anderem in den Titelpartien von Donizettis »Maria Stuarda«, »Anna Bolena« und »Lucia di Lammermoor«, Massenets »Manon« und Gounods »Mireille«. Zuletzt debütierte sie als Cio Cio San (»Madama Butterfly«) in Philadelphia und als Marguérite (»Faust«) in Helsinki. 2010 gibt Ermonela Jaho ihr Hamburg-Debüt als Violetta in »La Traviata«.
