Rodrigo García wurde 1964 in Buenos Aires geboren. Er arbeitet als Autor und Regisseur in Spanien und Frankreich. Mit seinen Stücken war Rodrigo García bereits mehrmals zu Gast beim Festival Internationale Neue Dramatik (F.I.N.D.) an der Schaubühne und am Theater Hebbel am Ufer (HAU). Er ist bekannt für seine sehr eigene, extrem physische Theatersprache. Seine Inszenierungen sind Provokationen, die mit großer szenischer Wucht den Zuschauer attackieren und in wütenden Texten mit der westlichen Zivilisation abrechnen. Seine Werke wurden in viele Sprachen übersetzt und weltweit aufgeführt. Rodrigo García inszenierte 2011 an der Schaubühne zum ersten Mal auf Deutsch: die Produktion „Soll mir lieber Goya den Schlaf rauben als irgendein Arschloch“ mit Lars Eidinger. Seine international erfolgreiche Arbeit „Gólgota Picnic“ war 2012 beim Festival Foreign Affairs 2012 im Haus der Berliner Festspiele zu sehen. Seit Januar 2014 ist García Künstlerischer Leiter des „Théâtre des 13 vents“ in Montpellier. DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL ist seine erste Opernregie.
