Darüber hinaus gastiert er seit Jahren an allen wichtigen Bühnen im In- und Ausland, darunter die Staatsopern München und Wien, die Deutsche Oper Berlin, das Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, die Metropolitan Opera New York, die Mailänder Scala sowie bei den Bayreuther und den Salzburger Festspielen.
Die großen Basspartien der Opernliteratur bilden das breit gefächerte Repertoire des Sängers: Rocco in Beethovens „Fidelio“, Sarastro und Osmin in Mozarts „Die Zauberflöte“, bzw. „Die Entführung aus dem Serail“, der Wassermann in Dvoráks „Rusalka“ und Boris Godunow (Mussorgsky) gehören ebenso dazu wie die Werke Verdis (Zaccaria/„Nabucco“, Großinquisitor und Philipp II./„Don Carlos“, Pater Guardian/„La forza del destino“) und Wagners (Pogner/„Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“, Gurnemanz/„Parsifal“, König Heinrich/„Lohengrin“), König Marke/“Tristan und Isolde“, Fasolt, Fafner, Hunding und Hagen/“Der Ring des Nibelungen“) uvm.
An der Deutschen Oper am Rhein ist Hans-Peter König in der Spielzeit 2021/22 als König Marke („Tristan und Isolde“) sowie als Hunding („Die Walküre“) zu erleben.
