Klaus Grünberg stammt aus Hamburg, studierte Bühnenbild bei Erich Wonder in Wien und arbeitet seitdem als freier Bühnenbildner und Lichtdesigner an Theatern und Opernhäusern in Europa sowie in Kuwait und Buenos Aires. Seit langem arbeitet er mit den Regisseur:innen Tatjana Gürbaca und Barrie Kosky zusammen, u. a. an der Komischen Oper Berlin, dem Royal Opera House London, dem Opernhaus Zürich, Schauspiel und Oper Frankfurt und vielen anderen. Eine regelmäßige Zusammenarbeit verbindet ihn mit dem Komponisten und Regisseur Heiner Goebbels. Am Théâtre de Vidy-Lausanne und bei der Ruhrtriennale entstanden Musiktheaterproduktionen, die weltweit auf Tournee gingen. Am Theater Bremen waren seinen Arbeiten für „Mazeppa“, „Le Grand Macabre“, „Simplicius Simplicissimus“, „Don Giovanni“ und „Die Krönung der Poppea“ zu sehen. 1999 eröffnete Klaus Grünberg in Hamburg das MOMOLMA (museum of more or less modern art).
