Es folgten Engagements u. a. an die Volksbühne Berlin, Staatstheater Kassel, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Schauspiel Frankfurt und an das Staatsschauspiel Dresden. Sie arbeitete mit Regisseur:innen wie René Pollesch, Marie Bues und Jan-Christoph Gockel. Daneben ist sie auch als Sprecherin tätig u.a. für den WDR und BR sowie für Film und Fernsehen. 2004 erhielt sie den Vontobel-Preis beim Theatertreffen deutschsprachiger Schauspielschulen und 2007 wurde sie mit dem Nachwuchspreis der Fördergesellschaft Kassel e.V. ausgezeichnet. Birte Leest ist seit der Spielzeit 2022/23 Ensemblemitglied des Schauspiel Hannover und spielt u. a. in Nora oder Wie man das Herrenhaus kompostiert und Der kleine Prinz.
