Für die Royal Shakespeare Company stattete er über 50 Produktionen aus wie u. a. »Othello«, »The Merchant of Venice« und »Romeo & Juliet«. Neben weiteren Arbeiten für u. a. den Broadway, das Hampstead Theatre, den Royal Court, das National Theatre und das West End Theatre in London entwarf er Bühnenbild und Kostüme für Werke wie »Getting Attention«, »Divas« (Donmar Warehouse) sowie »Stressed« (Ruby Wax Tour) und »Arms and the Man« (ACT Porduktionen). Zu seinen neuesten Arbeiten gehören u. a. »The Late Henry Moss« (Almeida Theatre), »Dancing at Lughnasa« (The Gate Theatre Dublin) und »Waterbabies« (Chichester Festival Theatre). Im Bereich des Musiktheaters war er für die Ausstattung von »Giulio Cesare« (Glyndebourne), »L’elisier d’amore« und »On the town« (English National Opera), »Der Rosenkavalier« (Wuppertal/Gelsenkirchen) und »Manon Lescaut« (Göteborg) zuständig. Für seine Kostüme für »Henry VIII« und »The Winter‘s Tale« an der Royal Shakespeare Company wurde Robert Jones für die Olivier Awards 1999 und 2000 nominiert.
