Jean Chaize wurde 1954 in Frankreich geboren und absolvierte seine Tanzausbildung u. a. bei Marika Besobrasova in Monte Carlo, bei Rosella Hightower in Cannes und bei Youra Loboff in Paris.
In den siebziger Jahren arbeitete er mit verschiedenen Choreografen wie Georges Golovine, Anne Béranger, Ethéry Pagava, Aline Roux, Lélé de Triana, Luis Ruffo u.a. Ab 1981 arbeitet er als Balletttänzer in Deutschland. Zuerst am Staatstheater Kassel, dann am Nationaltheater Mannheim. Von 1988 bis 2000 war er Darsteller des Choreographischen Theaters von Johann Kresnik in Heidelberg, Bremen und Berlin. Seine tänzerische Tätigkeit war schon immer mit schauspielerischen Leistungen verbunden.
Er arbeitet in Frankreich mit den Regisseuren Pierre Roman und Alexis Forestier, in Deutschland mit Christoph Marthaler, Ruedi Häusermann, Frank Castorf, Friedrich Lichtenstein, Reinhild Hoffmann, Luk Perceval, René Pollesch, Christoph Schlingensief, Karin Henkel, Anta Recke, Max Linz, Franz-Xavier Mayr und dem Performance-Kollektiv SheShePop.
