Lena van der Hoven studierte Musikwissenschaften, neuere und neueste Geschichte und neue deutsche Literatur an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und der University of Newcastle in Australien. 2013 promovierte sie an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin über die musikalische Repräsentationspolitik in Preußen zwischen 1688 und 1797. In ihrer Dissertation, die 2015 im Bärenreiter Verlag erschien, analysierte sie wie different die preußische Hofmusik als Inszenierungsinstrument von Herrschaft eingesetzt wurde. Im Anschluss an ihre Promotion arbeitete sie als Postdoc in der Forschungsgruppe »Gefühlte Gemeinschaften? Emotionen im Musikleben Europa« am Max-Planck-Institut für Bildungsforschung. Seit Juni 2015 ist sie Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Professur Musikwissenschaft an der Universität Bayreuth. Als Spezialistin für preußische Hofmusik hat sie die Symposions-Reihe zum 450jährigen Jubiläum der Staatskapelle konzipiert und ist ihre wissenschaftliche Leiterin.
