Effi Briest swings and plays hide-and-seek with Electra, Medea, Penthesilea and their three sisters Nora, Lulu and Francisca in the cherry orchard. Her plucky mother Lady Macbeth announces the arrival of Geert von Innstetten, who appears wearing a beaver fur coat and silk shoes and asks for Effi’s dirty little hands in marriage. Geert, who until recently was flirting with Sara Sampson, marries Effi and they move into Bernada Alba’s house in Damascus or Andorra. Effie gets pregnant, the holy Johanna is born and Miss Julie and Hedda Gabler become ...
Effi Briest swings and plays hide-and-seek with Electra, Medea, Penthesilea and their three sisters Nora, Lulu and Francisca in the cherry orchard. Her plucky mother Lady Macbeth announces the arrival of Geert von Innstetten, who appears wearing a beaver fur coat and silk shoes and asks for Effi’s dirty little hands in marriage. Geert, who until recently was flirting with Sara Sampson, marries Effi and they move into Bernada Alba’s house in Damascus or Andorra. Effie gets pregnant, the holy Johanna is born and Miss Julie and Hedda Gabler become the maids. The belle vue, the hope for faith, love, and happy days are dashed and end with broken jugs. Effi strikes up an affair in the rue de Lourcine with Major Crampas. What follows is a dance of death – a cruel spring awakening from a midsummer night’s dream.
