Today, dance styles are as varied as the demands made on the bodies of the dancers. The body is what the dancer works with. In dance, therefore, the body is the means of production and the only capital in the dancer’s career. There is often a great discrepancy between endogenous circumstances (among others, bodily preconditions), on the one side, and exogenous demands (among others, choreographic ideas, the situation at the workplace), on the other. This can endanger the dancer’s health, for a dancing body that can meet all demands no longer exists. ...
