Synopsis

Who believes in a good working multi-cultural society? Volksbühne Basel does. Housewives, stage actors, asylum seekers, students and musicians from 12 different countries have made it their mission to amalgamate Shakespeare’s language and humour with their cross-cultural observations of everyday life. Completely forthright interviews are combined with absurd rehearsal situations and the theatrical production. The protagonists win hearts and laurels with absolute authenticity and witty playfulness. They are updating Shakespeare´s drama “Romeo & Juliet” at once in a very personal and political way.
