PACIFICTION

Synopsis

On the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia, the High Commissioner of the Republic and representative of the French Government, De Roller, is a calculating man with perfect manners. However, his somewhat broad perception of his role leads him to regularly frequent some shady establishments where he mingles with the local population.
Since there is a persistent rumour: the sighting of a submarine whose ghostly presence could herald the return of French nuclear testing.

Biography

Albert Serra's sixth fiction film, after four films selected at Cannes and the Golden Leopard in Locarno for the fifth. Acclaimed by critics and the contemporary art world, Albert Serra now wishes to reach a wider audience with this story of impossible love on the paradisiacal islands of Polynesia, without renouncing the elaborate plasticity that characterises his films, in the tradition of Alexandre Sokurov, and which has earned his works comparisons with the paintings of Rembrandt and Goya.
