A terrible fire destroyed the company's ballet centre in Tapei, allof the costumes, studios and archives are gone.Lin Hwai-min, the company's artistic director and choreographer, worldwideacclamed, regards this terrible drama not as a nemesis butas himself and his very young, 35 year old company beingtested by Buddha and thus a challenge to fight and start anew.According to the legend, Cloud Gate is in China the referencename for the oldest ritual dance with about 5000 years old. In1973 Lin Hwai-min chose this name for the first contemporary dance company in Taiwan and in thewhole of Asia, whichis now classified as one of the most important dance company worldwide.The film shows the Company in Wuppertal during the preparations of "Wind Shadow" at the PinaPausch's International Dance Festival. We visit Taipei, Taiwan during the company's 35th anniversary,where we plunge into a world that is strange and mysterious to West Europeans. In an interview withLin Hwai-min, we learn more about his work and experience, outstanding pieces like "Wind Shadow", "Moon Water", "Cursive Trilogy" and "Whisper of Flower" will serve as excerpts to show the artisticdevelopment of the company within the last ten years.
