Synopsis
Jon Hendricks, world famous jazz singer and "vocalizer" of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, singing with Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong, still sings at 85 in Clubs in New York, London and Paris. He now went back to Europe, where he was fighting against Hitler's racist regime.But when the purely white and racist US.Military Police shot at Hendricks and his fellow "Negro Soldiers", he deserted and declared his own war on the segregated US Army. "We were treated like slaves on the plantation" , Hendricks remembers. Jon Hendricks created his own phantom US Supply Unit in the town of Besancon in France and organized their survival on the black market. It all finally endet in chains and a US prison work camp in Marseille and Wuerzburg. 60 years later, commemorating the American landings on the beaches of Normandy, the French gave Hendricks the "Légion d'Honneur". Was it for his Music or for his very special war against racism?
